Where diversity grows: Biodiversity in urban areas

Foxes in urban settings, wild boars in front gardens, bird species searching for suitable nesting sites — cities are no longer exclusively habitats for humans, but also for a growing number of wild animal species and a diverse range of plant species.

Urban spaces are increasingly becoming important refuges and habitats. Against the backdrop of urban resilience, sustainable urban planning and the design of liveable cities of the future, engagement with the concepts of wilderness, urban nature and urban biodiversity is gaining in importance. At the same time, urban planning challenges such as a shortage of housing, rising demand for land and the densification of inner-city areas are leading to the loss of open and green spaces. As a result of densification, important habitat structures are being lost here. This development has a negative impact on urban biodiversity, as many animal and plant species depend on such open spaces. Semi-public spaces, such as courtyards, community gardens and green strips, play a particular role in this context.

Studying with child(ren) or relatives to care for

How can it be possible to reconcile family caring responsibilities with the demands of studying? We will talk about possible challenges as well as offers and measures that the FHP has established as a family-friendly university. Our aim is to support students in a life-phase orientated way and to contribute to their individual academic success.

Studying with disabilities

Does your child have a disability, chronic illness or mental impairment? Graduation is in sight, but you feel a little uneasy at the thought of your child going to university soon? We would be happy to help you organise the transition from school to university in the best possible way and provide you with information about our support during studies so that an academic education is possible despite - no - with a disability.

The following graduates will share insights into how they started their careers:

  • Clara Kirmse, Tagwerk Restaurierung, freelance restorer
  • Dustin Kupke, Unleash Projektmanagement, civil engineer
  • Jasper Precht, designer and freelance artist
  • Betty Zepernick, bettybeat, sociologist, singer, DJ and designer
