All info at a glance

What is it about?

Get an international teaching experience and share your expertise as a guest lecturer at a partner university of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. Gain an insight into new forms of teaching. Exchange teaching content and methods. Expand your network and promote exchange between the partner university and the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.

Who can participate?

  • Professors and lecturers with a contractual relationship with the university
  • Academic staff
  • Doctoral candidates with a contractual relationship with the university

What is promoted?

Funding is provided for business trips to teach at the partner university for at least eight hours of teaching per week. For stays of more than 5 days, the number of teaching hours is increased by 8 hours per 5 days. Teaching events can take various forms: seminars, lectures, presentations, tutorials, supervision of doctoral students, etc.

Where to go?

The partner universities of University of Applied Sciences Potsdam have approved networks and extensive experience in the field of exchange. Feel free to contact the partner universities directly. You can also search the Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility Platform database.

How long can you be abroad for?

The duration of the funding is between 2 days and 2 months (excluding travel time). Depending on the availability of funds, it is not always possible to finance the entire duration of the stay.

Financial support

You will receive a travel allowance and a country-dependent daily allowance before the start of your stay abroad.

You will receive a daily flat rate per day of stay, depending on the country. The flat rates are set by the Erasmus+ programme as follows:

180 euros/day Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom
160 euros/day Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain
140 Euro/day Bulgaria, FYR Macedonia, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary

The travel costs are determined depending on real distances between the place of departure and the place of destination of the stay using a Europe-wide standardised calculation tool of the EU Commission.

If you travel all or part of the distance to your place of stay by sustainable means of transport, you may receive an additional supplement (top-up) on your travel allowance (environmentally friendly travel).

Distance Flat rate Allowance for environmentally friendly travel
10 - 99 km 20 euros -
100 - 499 km 180 euros 210 euros
500 - 1999 km 275 euros 320 euros
2.000 - 2.999 km 360 euros 410 euros
3000 - 3999 km 530 euros 610 euros
4000 - 7999 km 820 euros -
8000 km and more: 1.500 euros

With the Erasmus+ programme, the European Union aims to make a significant contribution to greater equality of opportunity.

Real cost applications help to offset additional costs incurred abroad. The following additional funding options are available:

  • University staff with a disability or chronic illness can receive up to £15,000 per person for staff mobility to cover, for example, assistance, increased accommodation and travel costs. Additional funds can also be applied for to cover preparatory travel.
  • University staff who go abroad with a child or children can receive a subsidy for childcare and accommodation costs for the children in addition to travel costs.

An overview of the numerous support options can be found on the Erasmus+ page on additional financial support for participants with fewer opportunities.

Application and procedure

Please send the application with the following documents by e-mail to the International Office (international@fh-potsdam.de) by the application deadline (in November and February):

  • Internal application (signed by you)
  • Mobility Agreement (signed by you at least, ideally also already signed by the partner university)

The information in the internal application is used to calculate the funding. The Mobility Agreement is the application for the project.

The following criteria play a role in the selection process and can be addressed in the application documents:

  • Strategic relevance for the university or department and purpose beyond the stay abroad (sustainability of the activity)
  • Quality of the project and its integration into the FHP curriculum. The project will be evaluated based on whether it benefits student groups (e.g. through BIP participation) or whether it contributes to the FHP's English-language courses in cooperation with partner universities.

The International Office will inform you of the amount of funding and send you a grant agreement. You can now begin organising your stay.

You are responsible for booking your own travel and accommodation.

You must complete the following steps:

  • Submit your official travel request application to the Human Resources Department (fortbildung@fh-potsdam.de). As the team responsible for the budget, the International Office will sign the application. The signature of your supervisor is also required.
  • If necessary, have the Mobility Agreement signed by the host institution.
  • Submit proof of sustainable travel to the International Office.

If necessary, take out additional insurance for the period abroad. The Erasmus+ mobility grant does not include any insurance cover. Within the framework of the confirmed business trip with Erasmus funding, only the statutory accident insurance for full-time employees at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam also applies abroad. We therefore recommend taking out international health insurance, liability insurance for abroad and, if necessary, travel insurance and/or life insurance.

Have the Confirmation of Stay signed by the host institution and send it by email to the International Office.
If necessary, collect invoices, tickets, etc. for your income tax return, in which you can declare the excess mobility allowance from the lump sums as income or declare additional costs.

After your stay abroad, you must complete the following steps:

  • Fill out the EU Survey (online)
  • Write a summary and send it to the International Office
  • If applicable, submit proof of sustainable travel to the International Office

Submission deadline: 6 weeks after the end date. The International Office is entitled to reclaim some or all of the Erasmus funding if you do not provide the necessary documents or do not provide them on time.

Furthermore, it is not necessary to submit receipts for the business trip. If necessary, you can declare the excess mobility funding as income on your income tax return or declare additional costs.
