Welcome to the Department of Social and Educational Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. We are organising an orientation week for first-year students and newly enrolled students at the start of the semester.

Orientation Days for the academic year 2025/26

The Orientation Days at the Department of Social and Educational Sciences (short FB1) take place from the 29th of September until the 2nd of October and will provide you with all important for a successful start in your studies. You will receive an introduction to your study programme, meet your first lecturers and find out which courses you will be attending.

Throughout the Orientation Days advanced students of FB1 will stand by your side and accompany you all the way. They will show you the student life at the FH Potsdam – whether in form of a campus rallye, a lunch at the university’s cantine, or a cultural programme in the city of Potsdam. This programme will offer you the possibility to get to know your future fellow-students and to get useful insider tips for your study experience as well as for the life at our university.

Information about the different study programmes

  • The Orientation Days  will take place on site from 29th September to 2nd October on the campus of the FH Potsdam.
  • On Wednesday, 1st October, the FH Potsdam Matriculation Ceremony will take place, for which you must book a ticket due to limited space. For those who do not get a ticket, there will be a live stream on campus.
  • For insurance reasons, only those who have been admitted to a study programme and have accepted their place may participate in the orientation days on campus.
  • Remember to bring your student ID card (Campus.Card) with you, if you have already received it.
    We will announce any changes on this page as necessary.
  • You can also request our ‘Study Start Newsletter’ email, in which we always provide the latest information about the first semester introduction (highly recommended, see information on the letter of admission). To do so, please send us an email at  fb1.orgteam@fh-potsdam.de with the subject line "Einführungs-News".

Important:

Registration for the courses only takes place during the Orientation Days and will be supported by the administrative study coordinators. In terms of course enrolment, you therefore do not need to do anything else in advance.

  • All necessary information about the internship – such as partners, requirements, practical tasks, organisational and legal framework conditions – will be clarified in the first weeks of the semester. There is no need to look for an internship placement in advance. For your personale planning, please notice that Thursday is generally the intership day without classes.

Selection and kick-off

The selection interviews are expected to take place in the fifth calendar week of 2026 (via ZOOM). Please make sure you are available if you receive an invitation.

You will receive information about the first attendance weekend in advance by email from Alena Kohlmann. (alena.kohlmann@fh-potsdam.de).

Kick-off

The kick-off event for the Master's programme in Early Childhood Education Research (MAFB) will take place on 14th of October 2025 at 10.15 am in the Theaterwerkstatt (main building). All information about the start of the semester will be announced by Alena Kohlmann in September. (alena.kohlmann@fh-potsdam.de).

The kick-off event for the part-time Master's programme in Social Work with a Focus on Family will take place on 24 September 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in building 5, room 1.02. The programme director, Prof. Dr. Alexandra Schmidt-Wenzel, warmly welcomes you to attend.

All further information about the start of the semester will be announced later in the day as planned.

Information for returnees

Are you already a student at FH Potsdam and want to retake or retroactively enrol in a first-semester course in the 2024/25 winter semester? Then you are also welcome to attend our orientation days!

Safety instruction

A safety instruction will take place on Tuesday, the 30th of September, 9.00 am – 10.00 am. Attendance is mandatory for all new students!

Semester ticket

Please note that your semester ticket, included in your student ID (Campus.Card), is only valid from the 1st of October on! For public transportation on the 30th and 29th of September make sure to buy a seperate ticket. (Frequent ticket control is very common around that time.)

s4s - Peer-support for your start

Throughout your first year of study and beyond, we offer you individual support: in the peer counselling project students4students, you will be assigned a scout from a higher semester. Your scout will contact you regularly and be available for a chat about your studies and life, for your questions and concerns – and even for a coffee together! Your scout will guide you through student life and introduce you to our scientific community at FH;P. This will give you a head start on your studies and help you quickly become part of our scientific community.
