Vernissage "Souls of Future Homes" - Time travel through living in the day after tomorrow

On Friday the 25th of July, 2025, students from the Design- and Urban Future degree programmes celebrated the opening of their exhibition "Souls of Future Homes" at BHROX bauhaus reuse at the Ernst-Reuter-Platz in Berlin-Charlottenburg.

Five visionary artefacts were the focus of this exhibition: objects from imaginary living worlds of the day after tomorrow, which are conceived as time travellers from the future and are therefore called "souls". They embody possible developments in the way we live together: from fluid long-distance relationships and temporary families of choice to new forms of neighbourhood connections and housing for an ageing society through to ecosystemic housing concepts.

To make the living scenarios even more immersive, the students combined their physical objects with an augmented reality layer. Visitors encountered buzzing, fluttering or crawling flatmates, immersed themselves in digitally overloaded living environments or explored a participation-orientated housing project at Ernst-Reuter-Platz in the year 2050.

Inspired by modularity as a sustainable construction principle, the designs closed a circle not only thematically but also creatively to the exhibition venue itself - the BHROX, a real laboratory for sustainable building and urban development from the original façade of the Bauhaus.

After introductory words from the cooperation partner zukunftsgeräusche / BHROX and the lecturers Alexandra Martini, Jasmin Jossin and Myriel Milićević, possible futures of living could be explored, dreamed, questioned and discussed with several senses. The evening ended with beats, dancing and conversations into the night.

The exhibition was on display at BHROX until 30 July 2025.
