Retrospective
Review of the Potsdam Science Day 2025
On the 10th of May, 2025, the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam (FHP) once again took part in the 11th Potsdam Science Day with its FHP Mobile. At Research Camp A in the Potsdam Science Park, the Department of Civil Engineering demonstrated how sustainable cold recycling can be used in road construction and gave visitors an exciting insight into research practice.
On a sunny Saturday in May 2025, visitors were invited to the FHP-Mobile to talk to Prof Dr Ronny Sorge and the FHP team about innovative, resource-saving construction methods in road construction. The research project "Sustainable road construction: conserving resources through cold recycling" ("Nachhaltiger Straßenbau: Ressourcenschonung durch Kaltrecycling") shows how old building materials can be reused directly on site in road construction - without the need for energy-intensive new procurement. Material requirements are reduced, as are transport costs, CO₂ emissions and costs - an important contribution to a more climate-friendly infrastructure.
Drill cores could be compared on site and the results of the research experienced at first hand.
- How does the material change through reuse?
- What are the advantages of cold recycling compared to conventional methods?
These and other questions were clearly explained and discussed.
Students from the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam were also on site and gave prospective students an insight into everyday life at the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.
The FHP-Mobil - Science on Wheels
The FHP-Mobil is a mobile exhibition and information stand of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. It brings current research projects directly to the public - interactively, vividly and practically. Equipped with technology, materials and presentation areas, it serves as a platform for dialogue between science and society and brings research to life for everyone.
