On the 28th of October, 2025, the exhibition Lighten Up: Biology and Time will open at the MIT Museum in Boston. A work by Prof Dr Helga Schmid will also be part of the exhibition: Circadian Dreams.

About the exhibition "Lighten Up: Biology and Time"

How do light and dark cycles shape our lives? From circadian rhythms to dreams, this immersive exhibition explores the crucial role of light in our health, mood and imagination.

Featuring 15 artists and 18 installations - including works by Carsten Höller, Adam Haar Horowitz, Seth Riskin, James Carpenter, Liliane Lijn, Helga Schmid and others - Lighten Up! invites you to immerse yourself in experiences that unveil the mysteries of biological clocks, sleep and time itself.

The exhibition is presented in collaboration with EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland, and curated by Anna Wirz-Justice, Marilyne Andersen, Sarah Kenderdine and Giulia Bini. Lighten Up! is presented at the MIT Museum as part of our thematic season TIME.

About the work "Circadian Dreams" by Prof. Dr Helga Schmid

Circadian Dreams examines alternative time models in relation to the human internal clock. The installation condenses the circadian day (approx. 24 hours) into 12 minutes, with light and soundscapes marking different phases of the body. The project opens up new perspectives on dealing with time in an increasingly fragmented, technologised world and is part of my artistic research on Uchronia (temporal utopia).
