Are you already supervising a doctorate or planning to do so? As a supervisor, you will find important information and your tasks from doctoral registration to completion here.

Your responsibilities – from registration to successful completion

As a supervising professor, you will accompany cooperative doctoral programmes from the initial registration of prospective doctoral candidates through to the supervision of doctoral students and the notification of successful completion. Here you will find an overview of the relevant steps and registration procedures.

Registration of prospective doctoral candidates and doctoral students

Please register academic staff who are interested in pursuing a doctorate at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam or doctoral students who are already enrolled in a doctoral programme at the contact address below. In order to inform you about our programmes, we require the surname, first name and email address of the interested party, your contact details as their supervisor and the relevant department.

Notification of completed cooperative doctoral programmes

Please notify us of any successfully completed doctoral programmes by sending the following information to the contact address below. This information is required for statistical data collection and the funding allocation model.

Counselling sessions

Hold discussions with your doctoral candidates! A constructive initial discussion and reliable supervision with regular meetings are very important criteria for successfully completing a doctorate.

Orientation questions for an initial interview with prospective doctoral candidates:

  • Research question, synopsis with timetable (by when?)
  • Has the funding for this period been clarified?
  • Doing a doctorate with an employment contract or externally? How is the connection secured?
  • Is the candidate already enrolled at a university?
  • Clarification of mutual expectations (e.g. how often do they wish to meet? What feedback periods should be given for questions?) -> In most cases, this is regulated by a supervision agreement between the universities, which you as the second supervisor should also sign.
  • Means of communication? E-Mail, telephone, video conferencing, other?
  • Networking opportunities for doctoral candidates and doctoral candidates at the department and at the UAS Potsdam
  • Ideas for possible conferences
  • Schedule the next meeting
  • Reference to newsletter for early career researchers at the FH Potsdam

In addition to your regular meetings, you should conduct an appraisal interview at least once a year.
