PowerMii: Empowerment research groups for girls from a migrant background, focusing on biographical work, in rural vocational schools.
In Germany, girls with a migration background face major challenges in vocational preparation due to multiple educational disadvantages, particularly in rural regions. This is where the PowerMii project steps in: By collaborating with science, school social work and vocational schools, innovative teaching units are created to empower research groups.

Inclusion, educational equality, and participation in the labour market are key challenges facing young people with a migration background in Germany. Rural regions in particular have a lot of catching up to do. Intersectional disadvantages and discrimination can lead to exclusion, particularly at transition points within the education system. Girls from disadvantaged backgrounds with a migration history often attend vocational preparation classes as part of the transition system to fulfil their compulsory schooling, as they do not complete any vocational training.
The PowerMii research project aims to empower educationally disadvantaged girls with a migration background in rural vocational schools through biographical work. In empowerment research groups, participating girls develop a reflective, research-based approach to their educational histories and become role models. They share their experiences in workshop formats and act as multipliers in other educational institutions. To sustainably anchor and transfer the empowerment programme, the knowledge gained will be compiled in a practical handbook for educational stakeholders.
