Time Without Clocks: The Perception of Time Beyond Clocks and Calendars
On 8th of August, the MIT Museum at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge will host the artistic programme ‘Time Without Clocks’, conceived by Prof. Helga Schmid. As part of the exhibition ‘Lighten Up! On Biology and Time’, the event invites visitors to explore time beyond the rigid structure of clocks and calendars.
Through installations, discussions and sensory experiences, the programme explores how time is shaped by the body, nature and society. Rather than following a fixed schedule, participants are encouraged to arrive, depart, and move through the experience at their own pace—listening, walking, resting, reflecting, and discovering how energy and attention shift throughout the day.
‘Time Without Clocks’ is presented in conjunction with Lighten Up! On Biology and Time, featuring the work of 15 artists exploring the deep connection of living beings to the cycle of day and night.
