Summer Holiday Workshop for Children (6 - 12 Years) of University Members
With its holiday programme, the FAMteam creates a meeting place for the next generation in order to open up and strengthen the FHP community for young people. During one week of the summer and one week of the autumn holidays, varied and exciting projects are developed with artists, filmmakers or nature experts, for example, in which the schoolchildren go on a short journey of discovery on and around the campus.
From the 13th to the 17th of July 2026 and daily from 9.00 AM to 3:00 pm, children can once again look forward to a colourful range of activities. Under the motto: "My house, my garden, my pony and my boat", the question "How do you actually live?" will first be explored through drawing and then sculpture, using a variety of materials and working methods.
The artist Tine Steen, who is accompanying us this week, describes her project idea as follows:
"The basis is formed by house models that we construct using scrap wood sawn into pieces. Each child works on their own model on a small base plate. In the course of the construction process, the work on the furnishings and fittings of the house can be refined further and further. For a mixed-age group of children aged between 6 and 12, this has the advantage that all participants can decide for themselves how detailed or stylised they want to work. Ideas are mutually taken up and developed further.
In the second part of the workshop, we will add new materials to explore the idea of living in an even more differentiated way. What does the garden of the house look like? Is there soil, plant pots and plants here? We shape the gardens with clay, potting soil and cress seeds and look for further materials and inspiration on trips to the nearby parks.
But what would the house be without its inhabitants? In the final part of the workshop, we use clay, wood, fabrics and faux fur to create the people and animals that live in the house and characterise it with their needs and preferences: Are means of transport needed to get around? Cars, bicycles, boats? Or do the residents prefer to ride their pony to the nearest supermarket? At the end of the workshop, the estates are pushed together to form a small town. Community facilities such as roads, a school or a hospital may be created at this point."
A final presentation is planned for the end of the last day at 2.00 pm in the theatre hall, to which parents and all other university members will be invited.
