Academic Writing – Language Practice & Text Production (Part 2)

This three-day workshop is the second part of a two-part intensive seminar on academic writing for students with German as a foreign or second language. Both parts can be attended independently of each other, but build on each other in terms of content.

Part 1 focuses on the basics and formalities of academic writing, while Part 2 focuses on linguistic consolidation and practical implementation: you will write, revise and refine academic texts, expand your academic vocabulary and practise specific grammatical structures.

We work on different academic formats such as essays, term papers and bachelor's theses, as well as sub-formats such as summaries, abstracts and paraphrases. Mutual proofreading and feedback help to improve your own writing style. Here, too, we reflect on the sensible use of AI tools in text production.

Language: German (with supporting explanations in English)
Target group: Students of all degree programmes with German as a foreign or second language

Contents:

  • Writing exercises on various formats (essays, term papers, bachelor's theses)
  • Summaries, synopses, paraphrases
  • Indirect speech with subjunctive I, passive voice, nominal style
  • In-depth study of citation methods and academic forms of expression
  • Punctuation in German, gender-neutral writing styles
  • Work on your own texts with peer feedback
  • Vocabulary and grammar training as needed
  • Targeted use of AI tools: practical exercises, opportunities and limitations
  • During and after the seminar, there is the option to arrange individual consultation hours with the instructor
