FEEL - Feeling, Recognising, Assessing, Learning
Extended reality and AI-supported counselling for parents in understanding and dealing constructively with their children's emotions
The FEEL project aims to sustainably improve digital parenting and educational counselling through innovative technologies. We are utilising the diverse potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and extended reality (XR) to develop new, interactive formats that support parents in better understanding and constructively shaping children's feelings, needs and family dynamics.
The focus is on three central areas of application:
The development of an AR-supported conversation simulation that allows parents to practise reflecting on and improving their interaction skills in a safe virtual space.
An AI-based chatbot that supports parents in analysing their resources and strengths in order to develop individual support paths and action strategies.
An immersive VR sequence that enables parents to take the perspective of their child and thus deepen empathy and understanding of the child's experience.
The innovative concept is based on close collaboration between various disciplines, including Psychology, Social Work, Media Science and Design. The aim is to create user-oriented applications that can be integrated intuitively, flexibly and without barriers into different counselling contexts. The project elements are developed, tested and evaluated in several phases to ensure their effectiveness, usability and acceptance in practice. We rely on the continuous involvement of the target groups - parents, professionals and scientists - in order to further develop the applications in line with requirements.
Our approach is based on the conviction that the use of digital media such as XR and AI can not only make counselling more efficient, but also strengthen participation, understanding and resource competence in families. Through open publications, workshops and networking activities, we want to anchor the developed formats in existing counselling systems and advance the scientific discussion in the field of digital parent-child interaction.
With FEEL, we are making a contribution to the digital transformation of parenting counselling - for family-friendly, resource-oriented and innovative support in everyday life. The results of the project should improve the quality of parenting work in the long term and set new standards for digital counselling services.
