Consolidation of Transfer Formats: What remains after "Innovative University"?

How can successful transfer formats be stabilised when the funding ends? At the IHS World Café organised by "Zukunft findet Stadt" and "InNoWest" at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, stakeholders from science, practice and politics discussed precisely this question. Both joint projects are currently funded via the "Innovative University" funding line - which ends in 2028.

What happens when funding programmes end, but the topics and challenges remain? This question was the focus of the World Café "What remains after Innovative Hochschule?" on the 17th of April 2026, to which the joint projects InNoWest and Zukunft findet Stadt invited participants.

In the event hall of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin - itself a practice partner in the Berlin joint project - a concentrated and at the same time dialogue-based working atmosphere was created. There was a very positive response to the invitation to share experiences: around 40 colleagues from universities, the scientific environment and practice came not only from Berlin and Brandenburg, but also from other projects in the"Innovative University" funding line across Germany.

Discussions took place in several rounds at themed tables on the topics of sustainability transfer, co-creation, university development, transfer competences and future alliances. The aim was to identify best practices on the question of how knowledge and technology transfer can be further promoted and systematically anchored at universities of applied sciences.
