Intercultural Competences for a Diverse University
The workshop teaches students intercultural skills and sensitises them to cultural differences in order to support international students as they settle into everyday university life.
International students are an important part of our university community. Especially in the first few weeks of their stay, committed students play a central role in making new international fellow students feel welcome and helping them find their way around university life.
This intercultural training is aimed at all students who would like to support international students in their arrival at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam or who are interested in questions of culture, communication and cooperation in international contexts.
In the workshop, we will look at how cultural imprints influence our perceptions, expectations and ways of communicating. Together we will reflect on our own perspectives and develop a better understanding of cultural differences and possible misunderstandings in intercultural encounters.
In addition to short inputs, the workshop offers space for exchange, practical exercises and working with examples from everyday university life. The aim is to strengthen the participants' intercultural competence and to support them in accompanying international students in a sensitive, reflective and supportive manner.
The workshop is aimed at all students at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, in particular participants in the Buddy Programme and members of the Departmental Student Council and General Students' Committee (AStA) who would like to get involved in promoting an open, inclusive and international university culture.
