Workshop: Minetest in library work - digital, creative, connecting

On the 16th of October 2020, the Brandenburg State Office for Archives and Public Libraries organised the seminar "Minetest in library work - digital, creative, connecting". Nico Giuffrida, prospective media educator and social worker at the KULTI youth club in Biesenthal, led the workshop. He guided the participating staff from Brandenburg's public libraries through the theory and practice of the Minetest programme and the possibilities it offers in library work.

Minetest is a free open-source alternative to the popular Minecraft. Minetest also encourages creativity through the numerous options for building and designing your own worlds and exploring other worlds. The programme can be used to create digital learning spaces and promote creative projects. At events, children and young people learn to work together as a team in a playful way and to realise their common goals both efficiently and imaginatively. Through fun and active participation, they are motivated to engage in this "game-based learning".

Mr Giuffrida guided the participants through one of these self-created worlds and gave them the space to try things out and create a small library landscape themselves. In doing so, he gave them the tools to organise such events themselves with children and young people and to encourage their creativity and teamwork through playful learning.

We would like to thank Mr Giuffrida for the successful event and the exciting insight into the possibilities of Minetest.
