Medien an den Rändern - Stock Building
In times of growing political unrest, libraries are increasingly confronted with difficult decisions regarding their positioning. A central issue is collection management: How should controversial works be dealt with? What criteria provide guidance in the decision-making process? And: Should the library position itself - and if so, to what extent?
This workshop clarifies key terms and concepts and examines various theories and methods to help you find your way around the topic. Questions such as censorship, library ethics and neutrality as well as contextualisation will be clarified and practical examples will be discussed. The participants will develop ideas on how to deal with these challenges and discuss different approaches to solutions as well as
best-practice examples. This is not only about inventory issues, but also about the democratic positioning of the library as an institution.
The first part is dedicated to the theoretical foundations. The second session will be a face-to-face workshop and will involve an exchange of best practice. Participation in the first session is not required to register for the workshop.
Speakers:
- Gabriele Bosch, Senior Librarian of the German Armed Forces
