Event Organised by the Punkt.Punkt.Punkt. Working Group: Behind the Scenes – a Discussion About Working(conditions) in the Cultural Sector

When we talk about Arts Management and Cultural Work, the focus is usually on projects and events. The work that makes them possible, however, often remains unmentioned and invisible. On this afternoon, we will take a look behind the scenes of the cultural sector and ask under what conditions culture is organised, produced and communicated.

The event is being organised in cooperation with the über:arbeit project group.

Over the course of a year, Rosa Räthel, Gioia Magelli and Steffen Oks developed the audio feature of the same name, which sees itself as an acoustic reflection on precarity and self-empowerment in Arts Management and Cultural Work. Together we will listen to excerpts from the production.

Afterwards, we will talk to Lisa Mangold and Frieder Miller, who contribute their experiences and perspectives as participants in the project. Lisa Mangold has been working in the arts and culture department at ver.di since 2021 and has headed the department as union secretary since 2023. Frieder Miller is an artist and works at the interface of figure and object theatre, light, code and pyrotechnics. Frieder is also a co-founder of the theatre collective manufaktor.

We would like to discuss what possibilities there are to campaign for better working conditions in the cultural sector and how solidarity-based organisations can be formed. We will look at both employed and freelance working realities.

The event is an invitation to question the status quo and think about other forms of (collaborative) working.
