Workshop "Anti-Semitism in Art and Culture"

Anti-semitism is structurally deeply embedded in all areas of society and is also present in the university context. Traditional set pieces of anti-Semitic ideology also characterise progressive spaces that see themselves as critical of discrimination, such as the arts and cultural sector.

A historicising or otherwise abbreviated understanding of anti-Semitism in institutions repeatedly leads to problematic ways of dealing with it and the suppression of Jewish perspectives. People who experience or criticise anti-Semitism often find themselves on the defensive.

An adequate approach to anti-Semitism, like any approach to violence and discrimination, requires a discussion that includes the respective dimension of experience. The workshop offers interested parties the opportunity to (self-)reflect on anti-Semitism as an experience and structure and to professionalise the way they deal with it.
