Prof. Constanze Langer

Constanze Langer studied Industrial Design, specialising in Interface Design and Interaction Design at the University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal. During, between and after her studies, she worked in Germany, Belgium and England for global industrial groups and research organisations. During this time, she worked in the field of product and software development, primarily for industrial applications.

She has been Professor of Visual Interface Design at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam since October 2012. In this time, she has held various positions in the Department of Design, e.g. as International Affairs Officer, member of the Faculty Council, decentralised Equal Opportunities Officer, Head of the degree programme Interface Design and Vice Dean of the Department of Design. She was Dean of the Department of Design from 2018 to 2020.

She has been a research professor since October 2021 and her research projects focus on the conception and design of artefacts and formats that strengthen the skills of the individual to deal with data in an informed manner and to be able to act confidently. To this end, she examines educational and participatory formats as well as developing and evaluating the potential of innovative interfaces, infographics and visualisations. 

Since 2020, she has also been an honorary professor at the National Taipei University of Technology: Taipei Tech in Taiwan and focuses on intercultural artistic analysis and synthesis practices in urban design. Research questions regarding the intercultural development and reception of information architectures, interaction mechanisms and visualisation formats are significant. The further development of design research methods and their transfer into design curricula is an overarching interest, which is aimed at the didactic discourses of the artistic subject cultures.

Since April 2022, she has also been Vice President for Digitalisation and International Affairs at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. In close cooperation with the President, she is responsible for the development and implementation of the FHP's digitalisation and internationalisation strategies. As a member of the Council of IT Representatives (RIT) of the Centre of Brandenburg Universities for Digital Transformation (ZDT), she represents the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam in order to further expand the constructive cooperation between Brandenburg's universities.
