Recognisable from afar: implementation of the new orientation system starts on campus
The first signs of better orientation are now visible on the campus of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. Planning and design took place on site with students and staff under the direction of Prof Christina Poth. The involvement of the university community was crucial to the development.
Large façade lettering visible from afar reinforces the affiliation of the various buildings to the university. The building markings are positioned so that they can be seen as clearly as possible within the campus. They all radiate towards the centre of the campus. At the university's request, the principle of historically grown house names was retained. At the same time, the reduction to one letter makes the naming logic easier to understand for outsiders: HG becomes H, LW becomes W, the future new building is labelled B, House 17 is supplemented by C.
A family of pictograms specially designed for the FHP will in future emphasise the diversity of campus life. Particularly important services will be visible in large format on the façade of the main building. Their precise positioning enables intuitive orientation.
The first part of the project will be implemented by the Christmas holidays. This will be followed by further tender packages for better orientation aids at the campus entrances, building overviews, tactile plans and destination labelling at the entrances.
