17th Annual Conference of the German Society for Child Protection in Medicine
The 17th DGKiM Annual Conference in Potsdam from the 7th to the 9th of May 2026 is dedicated to the topic of children's rights and child protection. The programme includes workshops, lectures, poster presentations, a general meeting and a social evening with specialist contributions from the fields of medicine, law, ethics and social science.
The 17th Annual Conference of the German Society for Child Protection in Medicine (Deutschen Gesellschaft für Kinderschutz in der Medizin, DGKiM) will take place in Potsdam from the 7th to the 9th of May 2026. The focus will be on the topic "Children have a right - to children's rights and protection". The conference will examine children's rights along the three pillars of participation, protection and provision, bringing together experts from the fields of medicine, ethics, law, social science and practice.
On Thursday, the 7th of May 2026, several workshops will take place at the Klinikum Ernst von Bergmann from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm, including the workshop "'NO! I don't want that' - Negotiating consent with children" by Marie Bernsdorf, a graduate of Childhood Education at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. Also on Thursday, the DGKiM e.V. board meeting will take place from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm and a get-together in the Thalia arthouse cinema from 6.00 pm.
On Friday, the 8th of May 2026, the main programme will continue at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. The Department of Social and Educational Sciences will be participating with a lecture by Prof Dr Claus Richter in the panel "Participation", which starts at 1.20 pm. On Saturday, the 9th of May 2026, another contribution from the department will follow from 11.00 am: Prof. Dr Karin Borck will speak on the topic of disasters in children's books in the panel "Current child protection issues from a children's rights perspective".
In addition, the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam will be presenting posters from the seminar "Children in Medicine" on Saturday, the 9th of May 2026, from 08.00 am at a "poster breakfast", prepared by students of the degree programmes Social Work and Early Childhood Education (whos seminar leaders are Prof. Dr Karin Borck and Henriette Sonntag).
