FHP Connect – Connecting students

Auf einem Türkisen Hintergrund steht in pinken Großbuchstaben FHP Connect. Schräg über die türkise Fläche strecken sich zwei pinke Arme zueinander hin - sie berühren sich nur fast mit den Fingerspitzen. Unten rechts steht wir vernetzten Studierende from here and there.

Welcome to FHP Connect! We are a team of students at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam that supports and looks after all international students at the university. We provide information about upcoming news, organise and host various cultural excursions and events and bring German and international students together. We are also happy to help with questions and problems.

Our International Evenings event series takes place once or twice a month and has different themes: Food from Around the World, Jam Session, Clothes Swap Party, Game Night and more!

Why do you work in the International Office?

  • Because I think it's a great opportunity to network and support international students. I enjoy organising events and getting to know different people.
  • I studied abroad for a semester (in Palermo) and know how valuable first contacts and points of contact can be during this time.

Fun facts about you

  • My middle name is Hörby
  • Chart music in the supermarket drives me crazy
  • about 6 years ago I put the seeds of a lemon in the ground. Today, I have several little trees (two of which are over a metre tall). But they will probably never bear lemons. What I only found out now.

My 3 favourite places in Berlin

  • Schönfließer Brücke
  • Prassnik in Torstraße
  • Tempelhofer Feld

Why do you work in the International Office?

  • I think the main reason is that I really like working with people and helping people. That could be my purpose in life.
  • I also come from abroad myself, so I know exactly how difficult it can be to organise your life in Germany and how important it is to have support. I didn't have this support at the beginning, so I want to help as many people as possible to adapt well and feel comfortable in a new place.

Fun facts about you

  • By the age of 19, I had already changed three universities and worked twice as a foreign language teacher.
  • I'm so obsessed with analogue photography that I haven't posted any digital pictures on my social media in the last +- 3 years.
  • I always tell people that I'm from Kyiv, even though it's not my hometown, because this city is just close to my heart.

My 3 favourite places in Potsdam

  • Heiliger See
  • Park Babelsberg
  • 11-line

Why do you work in the International Office?

  • Because I like to express myself creatively and my degree programme doesn't give me many opportunities to do this
  • Also the working environment and the team are very welcoming and I enjoy working with people.

Fun facts about you

  • I can clap with one hand.
  • I can pronounce the Welsh place Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllllantysiliogogogoch flawlessly.
  • I know every Doctor Who episode by name (2005 – 2022)

My 3 favourite places in Potsdam

  • The Casino, of course.
  • The New Garden, because there are some nice swimming spots.
  • The Freundschaftsinsel, because it's just beautiful in summer.
