The EW 58 house type characterises the townscape and villagescape of Brandenburg in many places - representing over 265,000 homes from the GDR era. These buildings are not only an important part of our architectural history, but also offer enormous potential for the future. The symposium will show practical ways in which these houses can be modernised in an energy-efficient, economical and sustainable manner.

The symposium will cover the following topics:

  • Preservation and further development of a characteristic house type
  • Refurbishment potential with great leverage
  • Standardised concepts for cost-efficient solutions
  • Digital planning methods to increase quality and energy efficiency

The programme is available online.

The symposium will take place on the 6th of November 2025 in the theatre hall in the main building of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. Owners of GDR homes, experts from planning, architecture and energy consulting as well as all interested parties who would like to contribute to the further development of this important building culture are invited.

Participation is free of charge - the event will take place hybrid. More information will follow. Please register via the Brandenburg Chamber of Engineers (link below).
