Expertise-oriented methods for the use of artificial intelligence in the creative industries
Research and development of methods for the use of GenAI in the context of the value chains of the creative industries, which lead to synergetic effects of artistic and creative competences in cooperation with AI. To disseminate the findings, recommendations for action and OERs for the development and integration of AI tools will also be published.
The research project KoVEKI – Kompetenzorientierte Verfahren zum Einsatz Künstlicher Intelligenz in der Kreativwirtschaft (KoVEKI - Competence-oriented methods for the use of artificial intelligence in the creative industries) - brings together the Department of Design and the Department of Information Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam to jointly develop new forms of cooperative human-AI interaction for the creative industries. The focus is on designing and communicating generative AI in a way that complements, rather than replaces, the creative, design and data-related skills of skilled workers.
The close interlinking of disciplines allows for an innovative approach.
- Design contributes expertise in the areas of user interface and user experience design, as well as creative work processes.
- Information science provides knowledge of AI processes, data quality and transparency, as well as explainable AI and critical reflection on technology.
From this transdisciplinary perspective, new interface concepts and AI-supported demonstrators are created that combine iterative, explorative and creative design working methods with data science methods. At the same time, skills profiles, OER learning modules and recommendations for action are being developed to qualify both current creative companies and future specialists.
Contribution to the goals of the state of Brandenburg (innoBB 2025 / innoBB 2025 Plus / KI-Strategy Brandenburg)
The project supports central state policy strategies:
- Cluster IKT, Media & Creative Industries: KoVEKI strengthens an industry that is considered a growth driver in the capital region through AI-supported innovation impulses.
- Regionalisation & development of skilled workers: The project contributes to the qualification of regional companies, start-ups and future skilled workers - a core element of innoBB 2025 Plus.
- Digital transformation & Work 4.0 (Arbeit 4.0): KoVEKI promotes the considered, responsible use of AI in companies and thus addresses key challenges of digital change.
- Strengthening technological sovereignty: Through open demonstrators, OER, open source approaches and the use of European infrastructures (e.g. NHR), the project contributes to independent AI expertise in the region.
- Innovative capacity of the capital region: The combination of technical and non-technical innovation - a core element of the cluster strategy - will be implemented in an exemplary manner.
Aims of the project
- Development of innovative interfaces for cooperative, competence-orientated collaboration between people and generative AI in creative work processes.
- Analysing the value chains of the creative industries and researching how AI is changing them and where new skills are needed.
- Iterative development and testing of demonstrators that combine UI/UX design and AI processes and strengthen the creative skills of users.
- Development of a sustainable range of skills (OER modules, workshops, recommendations for action) for companies, start-ups and future specialists.
- Strengthening the transfer of knowledge and technology between science, business and regional networks in Brandenburg and Berlin.
