Concrete canoe construction for the 20th German Concrete Canoe Regatta 2026

Work began last semester to finalise the next Concrete Canoe Regatta in the best possible way. The teams collected suggestions for improved regatta boats, came up with ideas for marketing and the concrete composition, and drew up a time and cost plan.

The concrete canoe regatta will take place from 19 to 20 October 2026. Students from the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam will once again be taking part, competing against teams from all over Germany in self-built concrete boats. 

The concrete canoe regatta is more than just a sporting competition. This event is about the perfect combination of concrete construction technology, boat design and teamwork. The challenge: to build a concrete canoe that is as light and robust as possible, that floats and is fast.

In August, the formwork team set itself the task of finding the optimum type of formwork. Two different variants were selected, which will be compared later on.

All of our canoeists were able to experience the feeling of being on the water in the old boats. None of the canoes sank, although we did notice minor leaks and had to pull one out of the water. Nevertheless, it was a complete success for our team sport!

Our new team for the upcoming concrete canoe regatta was formed in spring 2025.

06/2002: First participation in the regatta

2002 we took part in the concrete canoe regatta for the first time and really cleaned up! We were able to place twice in the sporting competition: We came 2nd in both the women's and men's classes.
We also came 3rd in the design category with our canoe mould. A great entry into the world of concrete canoes!

06/2005: 2nd place in the sporting competition

Three years later, we were able to build on our successes and once again impress in the sporting competition - with a strong 2nd place in the men's class.

06/2022: Further successes at the regatta

We were successful again at the penultimate regatta! We won the prize for the best T-shirt and came second for the design of our canoe mould at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.

14th and 15th of June, 2024: last concrete canoe regatta

At the last regatta, our women's team and the mixed team both achieved 5th place. We also finished in the top five for the social media prize and in the top ten for the T-shirt competition. It was a great weekend, and we are now super motivated to do even better at the next regatta!
