The part-time qualification course for media and information services specialists (archives) got off to a successful start on 4 March. 21 participants from all over Germany - from city archives to the Federal Archives - began their multi-year training programme at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.
Our part-time qualification course for media and information services specialists (FaMI) specialising in archives has got off to a successful start! On 4 March, we welcomed 21 committed participants from all over Germany to the first face-to-face event at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam - from institutions ranging from municipal archives to the Federal Archives.
The qualification is organised in cooperation between Centre for Continuing Education and the Brandenburg Specialist Unit for Archives and Public Libraries in Brandenburg. Over a period of time until the 19th of February 2028, participants will acquire a sound basic archival qualification - through a combination of attendance phases and digital learning units.
Prof Dr Michael Scholz is the academic director of the course and Sabine Stropp is the project manager.
The aim of the course is to provide employees in archives and related institutions without formal archival training with practical and theoretically sound knowledge and to strengthen them in their day-to-day work in the long term.
In terms of content, the course began with an introduction to the basics of the profession. Topics such as the status, legal form, organisation and tasks of archives were covered as well as initial insights into key areas of work. The initial phase was supplemented by practical elements and an exchange of ideas between the participants, who contributed their diverse professional backgrounds.
We look forward to the upcoming modules and to accompanying the participants on their journey through the next few years of the qualification programme.
