The Information Sciences Department at University of Applied Sciences Potsdam (FHP) will be a member of the prestigious iSchools organisation from November 2025. Admission was granted following a successful evaluation by the international iSchools Board, which selects members according to clearly defined criteria for research and teaching quality.

The iSchools organisation, an international association of over 130 universities worldwide - including renowned institutions such as the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Toronto and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - promotes research and teaching in the field of tension between information, technology and people. The iSchools movement was founded in the early 2000s with the aim of strengthening information science as a central future field of the knowledge society and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.

Networking for research, teaching and innovation
Together, the members are committed to developing innovative information solutions that benefit individuals, organisations and society. Through membership, the Department of Information Sciences deepens its collaboration with a global network dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary research.
Membership provides access to international research initiatives, conferences and exchange programmes, such as the annual iConference, the central meeting of the iSchools community.

Commitment to excellence and global collaboration
Membership underlines the Department's commitment to innovation and international dialogue. "By joining the iSchools organisation, our department aims to connect to a global network for excellence in information science. This opens a gateway to global, sustainable collaboration," says Prof. Dr Ellen Euler, Dean of the Department of Information Science.
Prof. Dr Ulrike Wuttke, Internationalisation Officer and iSchool representative of the department, adds: "Membership enables our faculty and students to be part of a vibrant intellectual community, to have access to collaborative research opportunities and to help shape the future of the discipline through joint action and academic exchange."

Signal for the future of information science in Potsdam
By joining, the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam is positioning itself as an active player in an international research environment that addresses key issues of digital transformation, information ethics and knowledge organisation. By becoming a member of the iSchools organisation, the university is sending a clear signal for the promotion of information science at an international level and reaffirming its claim to academic and scientific expertise.
The department is thus well positioned to tackle the complex challenges through interdisciplinary approaches in the fields of information, technology and society and to expand existing collaborations.
