Retrospective

Department of Information Sciences at the Open Day 2026

At the open day on the 6th of June 2026, the Department of Information Sciences and the Brandenburg Specialist Unit for Archives and Public Libraries in Brandenburg presented their programmes to prospective students and anyone interested in career prospects in the fields of archiving, librarianship and information science.

With a varied programme, the Department of Information Sciences once again offered numerous opportunities this year to discover the degree programmes and their content at first hand. Under the slogan ‘Practically anything is open to you here’, the bachelor's degree programmes in Archival Studies, Library Science, and Information and Data Management were presented in a series of short talks. Visitors were given an insight into the diverse fields of work within Informationswissenschaften.

A particular highlight was the Department’s open laboratories and workshops. In the archives workshop, the digitisation laboratories, the computer rooms and the laboratories for information behaviour research, visitors gained an insight into current projects, practical applications and the methods taught on the degree programmes. Students presented their work and shared their experiences of the degree programme. This highlighted just how closely theory and practice are intertwined in the study of Informationswissenschaften.

Anyone wishing to review the degree programme presentations or find out more can download the presentation slides online.

For anyone who is still unsure which degree programme best suits their interests, the online Study Choice Assistant (OSA) offers helpful guidance. Using interactive examples, it provides in-depth insights into the content and requirements of the degree programmes.

The Department of Information Sciences would like to thank all visitors for their interest, the many discussions and a successful day. We look forward to seeing you again at future events or, perhaps soon, as students at the Department of Information Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.
