City of Tomorrow 2023 - With the FHP Mobile in Krampnitz
The state capital of Potsdam is once again organising the "City of Tomorrow" event in Krampnitz in 2023 with the development agency ProPotsdam. The vision for the development of the new urban neighbourhood is to meet challenges such as the housing shortage, the mobility transition and the reduction of CO₂ emissions.
There will be guided tours of the site, family activities such as the "children's construction site" and the "Krampnitz rally", numerous participatory activities and a great stage programme until late in the evening. In addition to the stands of the project partners and other local stakeholders, the FHP Mobil will also be represented at the Krampnitz Market with the "Planning in Existing Contexts" project of the Master's degree programme in Building Conservation and Construction in Existing Contexts. The ensemble of buildings comprising the officers' mess, officers' quarters and ensigns' quarters of the former Army Riding School was the subject of planning by 18 students on the Master's degree programme in Civil Engineering in the winter semester 2020/21 with Prof. Jörg Röder and Prof. Silke Straub-Beutin.
The aim of the "Planning in Existing Contexts" project was to record the buildings in their entirety, examine and document damage, develop utilisation ideas for the three currently vacant and in some cases very badly damaged buildings and demonstrate their technical feasibility.
In addition to recording the existing buildings and planning the utilisation ideas, the students have extensively examined the construction of the buildings, the possibilities of adapting them to current building law requirements and the history of the site.
The results of the group work will now be presented again as part of the "City of Tomorrow" summer festival at the FHP Mobil. The students, who are now working in architecture and engineering firms on real-life building projects, will explain their designs.
The concepts range from a campus for integration, inclusion, culture and education for the officers' mess, a place for co-housing and co-working for the officers' home to a research and training centre for the ensign's home.
The planned uses are intended to provide additions for the future residential location of Krampnitz, which could be an extension of the public offerings in the neighbourhood.
Admission is free. Further information on the "City of Tomorrow - 2023" can be found at Krampnitz.de.
