Autumn Holiday Workshop for Children (aged 6–12) Run by University Staff

Through its holiday programme, the FAMteam creates a space where young people can come together, with a view to opening up the FHP community to them at an early age and strengthening it. During one week each in the summer and autumn holidays, varied and exciting projects are developed in collaboration with, for example, artists, filmmakers or nature experts, in which schoolchildren (aged 6–12) embark on a mini-discovery tour on and around the campus.

From the 26th to the 30th of October 2026, every day from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm , we ’ll be embarking on a culinary journey around the world under the motto: „This is how the world eats. And what do you like?“ to discover the diversity of different food cultures. Together, we’ll learn about different countries, typical foods and dishes, and discover the stories and traditions behind them. In doing so, we aim to explore the diversity of what ends up on plates around the world, what the children bring with them from their own lives, and what their favourite dishes are.

This also raises the question: where does our food actually come from? We’ll explore plants and food, how they’re grown, harvested and processed, and in doing so discover just how diverse – and yet how unifying – food can be. Where is our food grown? How is it grown and processed? And what (transport) journey does it undertake? On short excursions in and around Potsdam, we’ll explore places where food is sold, and in doing so, get to know the regional side of our diet.

From Tuesday to Thursday, we’ll be cooking together. We’ll put together a menu as a group, try out new ingredients and recipes, chop, stir, experiment and, of course, enjoy what we’ve created together.

On Friday, we plan to present the results of our journey in a campus rally devised by the children. At various stations, anyone interested can discover the workshop topics that are important to the children, perhaps give them a go, and learn more about the diversity of our diet.

The autumn holiday workshop is free of charge. The canteen will provide us with lunch on Monday and Friday.

The holiday programme runs continuously every day from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm. If required, we can look after individual children until 4.00 pm on request.
