We cordially invite you to the 17th Conservation Science Colloquium Berlin/Brandenburg on the 14th of March 2025 at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.

Plastics and synthetic polymer binders were tested and used as conservation and restoration agents in all material directions in the 20th century, especially after the Second World War, and often present those responsible for objects today with decisions to be weighed up as to how to deal with such old restorations.

This topic was part of a DBU research project entitled "Environmentally induced degradation of synthetic conservation and restoration agents". As part of the project, several objects made of different materials (including glass, wood, metal, wall paintings and stucco) were examined, analysed and evaluated on an interdisciplinary basis before solutions were discussed and put into practice.

The organisers of the colloquium would like to use the event to present the current state of knowledge and case studies from other federal states and Switzerland on the handling of aged polymers in the preservation of architectural monuments (for further details and registration, see flyer).
