Information on internships in the Bachelor's degree programme

In our bachelor's degree programmes in Social Work and Childhood Education, internships or practical days are an integral part of the degree programme. Integrated internships enable you to get to know a field of work through your own activities and to check and consolidate theoretical knowledge through practical experience.

Overview

Support from the Transferl Laboratory

The Transfer Lab of the Department of Social and Educational Sciences offers counselling and support for questions about internships. Get general information about the counselling services and the office hours of the Transfer Laboratory.

Scope

  • The supervised full-time internship in the Bachelor of Social Work  takes place in the fourth semester.
  • The scope of 800 hours is spread over at least 20 weeks.
  • During the placement period, you will usually attend events at the university one day a week.
  • Exceptions due to work placements away from the university are agreed with the transfer laboratory.
  • This study day is not part of the required 800 hours.

Practical semester contract

If you receive an acceptance from the recognised internship institution, a practical semester contract and a training plan are concluded as part of the contract between the practical institution, the student and the university of applied sciences. The practical semester contract and the training plan must be submitted to the transfer laboratory before the start of the internship.

  • The contract is concluded between the practical institution, the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and the student.
  • As a rule, the contract should be drawn up and signed in triplicate for the three parties (digitally, one copy is sufficient).
  • The signed contracts should be handed in to the transfer laboratory, preferably by e-mail to praktikum-transferlabor@fh-potsdam.de or by post, each signed by the student and the practical placement.
  • Please send the necessary performance overview with at least 60 ECTS credits so that the contracts can be signed. The performance overview can be downloaded directly from QIS as a PDF document.
  • The contract is not valid until it has been signed by the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences and the proof of achievement has been submitted.
  • The contracts should be handed in as early as possible, but no later than two weeks before the start of the internship.

Please note: An internship that has begun without a signed contract is not considered approved by the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.

Training plan

The training plan specifies the teaching and learning phases. The internship contract and the training plan must be submitted to the transfer laboratory before the start of the internship.

  • The training plan is best submitted by e-mail to praktikum-transferlabor@fh-potsdam.de (currently digital processing of administrative files due to pandemic, basically paper is saved).
  • The training plan must be submitted for signature no later than four weeks after the start of the internship.
  • The training plan is important for you to record learning goals and to be able to demand them if necessary. Therefore, you will get a copy back.

Proof

After completion of the internship, a confirmation from the internship site about the proper course of the supervised internship must be submitted. Please send proof of the hours worked in the form of a three-liner from the internship site by e-mail to pb_basa@fh-potsdam.de.

  • The summary assessment and/or the proof of hours must result in the statement: The intern has successfully or unsuccessfully completed the internship at the institution [name of institution] from DD.MM.YYYY to DD.MM.YYYY to the extent of the required 800 hours in accordance with the training plan and the learning objectives agreements.
  • The confirmation of the 800 hours during the internship must be formulated.

The recognition is carried out by the transfer laboratory.

Posting

For a successful booking of the internships, registration with QIS in the corresponding module is required (M 41 a-e / regular internship or M41 b-e / internship abroad).

  • Registration with QIS should only take place with the completion of the internship and the submission of the proof of the successfully completed internship in the transfer laboratory of the current semester.
  • If you registered with QIS more than one semester ago, please cancel the registration yourself and register again with QIS (e.g. submission of the proof of hours in October 2021 requires registration with QIS in winter semester 21/22).

Timetable

During the lecture period, there is a weekly university day on which supervision or project development in the internship takes place in alternation. In addition, another seminar on methods relevant to the internship must be taken. Further information can be found in your module regulations.

As a rule, most students start their internship already in the course of February. Although the courses do not start until the end of March, the accompanying supervision course probably starts at the end of February or beginning of March and must be attended every two weeks before the general start of the course period, as attendance is compulsory for this course. Even if the internship starts later, attendance is compulsory. Please take this into account in your planning.

  • You can discuss the preparation and organisation in your workshops as well as with the transfer laboratory of the department.
  • You can find all the necessary documents in the downloads for the internship in the degree programme Education and Upbringing in Childhood.

Practical semester contract

If you receive an acceptance from the recognised internship institution, a practical semester contract and a training plan are concluded as part of the contract between the practical institution, the student and the university of applied sciences. The practical semester contract must be submitted to the transfer laboratory before the start of the internship.

  • As a rule, the contract should be drawn up and signed in triplicate for the three contracting parties (digitally, one copy is sufficient).
  • Your workshop director signs the contract on behalf of the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences.
  • The signed contracts are handed in to the transfer laboratory, preferably by e-mail to praktikum-transferlabor@fh-potsdam.de or by post, each signed by the students, the practical training centre and the UAS Potsdam.
  • The contracts should be handed in as early as possible, but no later than two weeks before the start of the internship.

Please note: The contract is only valid with the signatures of all parties to the contract. Started internships without signed contracts are considered as not approved by the UAS Potsdam.

Proof

  • During the internship, a time sheet must be kept to record the internship hours completed.
  • After completion of the specified internship hours in a module (Workshop I: 240 hours, Workshop II: 500 hours, Workshop III: 100 hours), the documents are submitted to the transfer laboratory for accounting.
  • Recognition of the internships is carried out by the Transfer Laboratory.

Posting

  • For successful booking of the internships, registration with QIS in the corresponding modules is necessary.
  • Please do not register with QIS until you have achieved the specified internship hours in a module.
