Berlin-Brandenburg Data Competence Centre for Digital Humanities, Public Administration, Computer Science and Information Sciences

The QUADRIGA Data Competence Centre (DKZ) brings together the four disciplines of Digital Humanities, Public Administration, Computer Science and Information Sciences, focusing on the data types of text, tables and moving images, within the Berlin-Brandenburg research hub. The metropolitan region is a hub for openness in the two application domains of Digital Humanities and Public Administration. The foundational disciplines of Computer Science and Informationswissenschaften, with their extensive expertise in data science and data stewardship, support these two application domains in terms of research into data flow, (inter)national standards (e.g. IEEE, DCAT-AP, TEI) and principles (e.g. FAIR, CARE). The QUADRIGA concept brings together research and learning centres through a variety of networking platforms. To develop digital methods, specific research questions and data types are addressed through case studies at the research centres. In the learning environments, the datasets, standards and methods are transformed, using didactic tools, into case-study-based, target-group-specific and competence-oriented QUADRIGA Educational Resources for continuing professional development that can be accessed anywhere and at any time. Assessment tools link research and learning sites on the basis of an optimised QUADRIGA data literacy framework, enabling researchers to map their data literacy skills along the data flow. Using the QUADRIGA Navigator search tool, all QUADRIGA educational programmes are made available on the QUADRIGA Space data literacy platform in a way that is tailored to specific target groups and guided by their interests, based on the data literacy framework. This increases the visibility of all educational programmes in relation to the data literacy framework. At the networking hubs, the focus is on bridging the gap between general data science principles and domain-specific applications by addressing scientific and societal needs through innovative formats of science communication and knowledge and technology transfer. 
QUADRIGA creates spaces for society, politics and Administration to come together to collect, process, utilise and analyse data in an increasingly digitalised world, whilst providing doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers at all career stages with resources to handle data confidently in their day-to-day research. QUADRIGA is a subject-specific regional centre geared towards long-term sustainability, comprising a strategic alliance of strong, experienced and excellently networked partners; through the involvement of the relevant professional societies, it exerts a significant influence far beyond the boundaries of the Berlin-Brandenburg research hub.
