Discover Humanities at Scale

Humanities at Scale (www.has.dariah.eu) can be seen as a complement to DARIAH. It aims to enhance DARIAH in the promotion of new and the preservation of existing knowledge in digitally supported research in the humanities.

To achieve these goals, HaS focuses on three main activities:

1. expanding the DARIAH community:
Networking: Bringing researchers together

"Humanities at Scale" aims to expand the group of members associated with DARIAH. To this end, the project integrates new regional communities and new research communities.

Funding: help with fundraising

HaS supports the growth of DARIAH with ambassadors for digital humanities and alternative funding models.

Education: expanding knowledge

HaS also offers a special pan-European training programme for digital arts and humanities. HaS will also organise summer and winter schools in regions that do not have a long tradition in the digital humanities.

Fellowships: Sharing knowledge

HaS promotes the exchange of researchers in the field of digital humanities in the European Research Area (ERA) through several residency fellowships and the

2. development of core services:
Better access to DARIAH contributions

"Humanities at Scale" will better integrate the existing contributions of DARIAH member states and make the complex model of national contributions more accessible overall.

Supporting research

The project will support digital humanities projects as major contributors to DARIAH with basic infrastructure services that they will need throughout their lifecycle. This will greatly facilitate the integration of digital humanities projects into DARIAH, as integration will start at a much earlier stage of their conception.

Open access

In addition, the project focuses on open access in two new areas: open data and open methods in the humanities.

3. informing research communities:
Information plays a crucial role in the Humanities at Scale project. HaS will disseminate the results to relevant academic, cultural and industrial communities and the interested public through publications, presentations and online media.

The DARIAH-ERIC coordinates HaS. All partners involved in HaS are important providers of humanities infrastructures in their respective countries and internationally. They bring the necessary expertise to ensure the smooth running of the project. In addition, "Humanities at Scale" can draw on the expertise of more than 60 partner institutions in DARIAH.
