Workplace Safety Specialist

Workplace safety specialists are responsible for supporting employers in matters of occupational health and safety and accident prevention, covering all aspects of workplace safety, including the human-centred design of work.

Role & Responsibilities

Workplace safety specialists shall

1. advise the employer and other persons responsible for occupational health and safety and accident prevention, in particular with regard to

  • the planning, construction and maintenance of plant and equipment, and of social and sanitary facilities,
  • procurement services for technical work equipment and the introduction of working methods and materials,
  • the selection and testing of personal protective equipment,
  • the design of workstations, work processes and the working environment, and in other matters relating to ergonomics,
  • the assessment of working conditions.

2. to carry out safety inspections of plant and technical work equipment, in particular prior to commissioning, and of working procedures prior to their introduction.

3. to monitor the implementation of occupational health and safety and accident prevention and, in this connection,

  • to carry out inspections of the workplaces at regular intervals and to report any deficiencies identified to the employer or the person otherwise responsible for occupational health and safety and accident prevention, to propose measures to rectify these deficiencies and to work towards their implementation,
  • to ensure that personal protective equipment is used,
  • to investigate the causes of workplace accidents, to record and analyse the findings of such investigations, and to propose measures to the employer to prevent such accidents.

4. to ensure that all employees in the workplace behave in accordance with the requirements of occupational health and safety and accident prevention, in particular

  • to instruct them on the accident and health risks to which they are exposed at work, as well as on the facilities and measures designed to avert these risks, and
  • to assist in the training of Security Officers.
