New training programme: Data management for non-profit organisations

The University of Applied Sciences Potsdam (FHP) is expanding its continuing education programme with an innovative format for the non-profit sector: the new part-time course "Data Management in Non-Profit Organisations" will start in the winter semester 2025/26. The course is aimed specifically at specialists and managers from social institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and municipal administrations.

In times of increasing digitalisation and growing demands for transparency, impact orientation and data protection, non-profit organisations (NPOs) are dependent on professional data management. Many organisations are faced with the challenge of meeting the increasing information and reporting obligations - often without the corresponding internal expertise.
"Participants develop a sound understanding of data management in non-profit organisations - for example in social institutions or charities. They learn how to analyse, manage and strategically use data. The skills they acquire enable data-based solutions that contribute to improving the quality of their own organisation," explains Mustafa Turna, Head of the Centre for Continuing Education (ZEW) at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences.

Practical, well-founded, flexible
The new continuing education course provides practical and legally compliant knowledge about the strategic use of data in non-profit organisations - from collection and analysis to impact-oriented communication. Contents include

Introduction to data management for social organisations
Data-driven decision-making and impact management
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and ethical principles
Selection and use of digital tools
Introduction to artificial intelligence (AI)
Data-driven communication and reporting
Case studies from the non-profit and public sector

Part-time and modular
The course is specially designed for professionals who take on responsibility in the social, educational or non-profit sector - be it in management, planning or evaluation. The modular format enables flexible learning with online and face-to-face components. The programme concludes with a qualified certificate from the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences.
