Webinar: Language Education and Literacy Acquisition – The Library as a Key Player in Family Education
How can children’s language development be encouraged in creative ways, and what role do public libraries play in this? Pia Löber-Wille, a literature educator and owner of “Wörter.Wunder.Welten”, explored these and other questions during a three-hour webinar organised by the Brandenburg Specialist Unit for Archives and Public Libraries in Brandenburg.
Pia Löber-Wille gave a clear explanation to the participating staff from Brandenburg’s public libraries of how important early literacy is for children’s language development. She focused on the language development of children aged between 0 months and 6 years, and on the stages at which adults – and library staff in particular – can influence children to lay the foundations for their future reading skills. The participants learnt what they can do specifically for the children in their day-to-day work, and which methods, tools and materials they can use to promote literature in creative ways.
A big thank you goes to Ms Löber-Wille for the fantastic and informative event, and to the library staff for their active participation!
