Exchange and Practical experience at the Department of Information Sciences: Impressions of the internship day 2026

On 29/04/2026, the annual internship day took place at the Department of Information Sciences: a highlight for anyone interested in an internship at home and abroad or who would like to get an authentic impression of working life in the information industry.

Many students took advantage of the internship day 2026 to find out more about internship opportunities in a varied programme of presentations, discussions and personal talks. They also gained insights into the topic of internships abroad.

A particular focus was the joint poster exhibition by students from the internship semester. A wide range of 50 internship experiences were vividly presented here - from work placements in libraries and archives to projects in IT companies and international activities.

A special item on the programme was the exchange of experiences with former students. They spoke about their transition into working life, offered advice on finding work placements, and answered questions about course requirements, the application process and personal development during their studies. This exchange gave the students valuable insights into possible career paths after graduation.

The alumni in attendance included Elisabeth Klindworth from the Archiv der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaften e.V., Robynne Winkler from the Stadtarchiv Potsdam, Carla Steinseifer from the Leibniz-Institut für Bildungsforschung und Bildungsinformation (DIPF), Jonas Hantow from the Projekt KidRewi and Lea Flender from the Bibliothek Theologische Hochschule Elstal.

The internship day impressively demonstrated how diverse the opportunities at the Department of Information Sciences are and how worthwhile it is to consider the topic of internships at an early stage.

Special thanks go to our Departmental Student Council for organising the evening’s finale at the Casino, and to the many volunteers who helped organise the work experience day.
