Innovation Management in Practice: Cooperation with Radio TEDDY Creates New Perspectives
In the FLEX innovation seminar, students worked with a well-known radio station to develop new business models and realistic concepts for a sustainable family radio station.
The FLEX course "Innovation Management: Development of knowledge-intensive business ideas in cooperation with Radio TEDDY" took place for the second time in the winter semester 2025/26. The multidisciplinary seminar, led by lecturer Prof Enrico Sass, is part of the "Daily Business Management Techniques" module and was once again attended by students from a total of three departments. Within the module, a selected technique for developing business models in an operational context is presented and practised.
As part of the FLEX course, the students focussed on innovation-based services. In cooperation with the radio station Radio TEDDY, they developed concepts for a possible family radio station of the future.
Skills for the world of work meet innovation
Arts Management and Cultural Work student Gregor Dier specifically chose the course because he is interested in media and media production for his professorial recruitment. "I also consider future- and solution-orientated thinking to be very important and see innovation in this context as a decisive factor for the further development of a company," says the founder of a small event company. Gregor particularly emphasises the topics of market research, consulting and the development and presentation of concepts covered in the seminar: "Thanks to the course, I feel much more confident in these areas. I will certainly be able to use many of the methods and working methods in the future."
Fresh ideas for a traditional medium
Radio TEDDY also benefited from the collaboration with the students. Programme director Roland Lehmann accompanied the development of the concepts together with his team and emphasises the added value of the cooperation:
"We found the professional view of a still very young generation on a medium that is over 100 years old particularly enriching in the collaboration with the students. Thanks to the many lessons learnt from the first cooperation seminar, we were able to focus on certain issues and include economic aspects more, for example. This resulted in new impulses that can be implemented in the short term - for example in the area of social media - but also long-term concept sketches and ideas."
New FLEX collaborations in the 2026 summer semester
Lecturer Prof. Enrico Sass also noted a thematic development in the final presentations: "While the first edition of the seminar focused primarily on AI-supported personalisation and streaming offerings, this time aspects such as multilingual offerings, community management, profitability and willingness to pay also played a greater role."
The FLEX course once again demonstrates its added value for all participants: students acquire practical skills in the development of business models, while Radio TEDDY benefits from new perspectives and interdisciplinary ideas. The format will be continued in the coming semester with a new cooperation with Waschhaus Potsdam: The new FLEX course starts on the 13th of April and takes place every Monday from 12.30pm. Upon successful completion, 5 ECTS credits will be awarded.
