Existing Earth-Walled Buildings: A lecture on Repair and Restoration

As part of the "Down to Earth" lecture series on earthen construction, Prof Dr-Ing Jörg Röder from the Department of Civil Engineering will give a lecture on the preservation of existing buildings, together with Dipl-Ing Benedikt Füger.

In their presentation „Repair & Restoration“, Prof Dr-Ing Jörg Röder and Dipl-Ing Benedikt Füger from the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam explain how existing clay-built structures can be made fit for the future. From damage analysis to a maintenance strategy: using selected case studies, they demonstrate how traditional craft techniques from practical experience can be combined with the latest research findings – including those on the repair of cracks in solid clay walls.

The lecture is part of the digital lecture series “Down to Earth” organised by the Dachverband Lehm e.V. Spanning 16 lectures, the series brings together knowledge, projects and perspectives from various universities, disciplines and fields of practice, and is aimed at students of architecture and Civil Engineering, lecturers and planners, as well as all enthusiasts keen to explore clay further.

The lectures take place online via Zoom every Thursday from 4.00 pm to 5.30 pm and are free of charge.

The programme, listing all dates and topics, is available to download as a poster (at the bottom of this page) and on the lecture series’ website.
