Exhibition "Schwedt/Oder − Urban Redevelopment and Development Prospects"
How can a city reinvent itself in times of change? Students from the Architecture and Urban Design degree programme provide answers to this question in the exhibition "Schwedt an der Oder − Urban Redevelopment and Development Perspectives" from the 13th of June to the 18th of July at Schwedt/Oder Town Hall. On display are creative designs, urban development analyses and innovative ideas for a climate-friendly, vibrant city. The exhibition invites you to rethink the city − together with citizens, administration and science.
How can a changing city reinvent itself? This question was the focus of a two-semester teaching and research project in the Architecture and Urban Design degree programme. Working closely with local stakeholders, the students developed visionary concepts for the Brandenburg town of Schwedt an der Oder - a town with an industrial past and great potential for the future.
The results of this intensive debate can be seen at Schwedt Town Hall from the 13th of June to the 18th of July 2025. On display are designs, models and analyses that provide new impetus for mobility, sustainability, education and social participation.
The project is divided into two main areas: In the winter semester 2023/24, the focus was on the idea of an Innovation Campus Schwedt − a new training and research centre at the interface of industry and future technologies. In the winter semester 2024/25, the students focused on central inner-city spaces − including the railway station district, Platz der Befreiung and the Alter Markt − and developed concepts for a liveable, networked and identity-creating city.
The project was led by Prof. Dr. Silvia Malcovati and Vivien Nowak, MA and thrived on dialogue with the city: the city administration, museum, archive and the PCK refinery were just as involved as the citizens of Schwedt.
The exhibition invites visitors to understand urban development as a collaborative process − and shows how young planners are rethinking real spaces with fresh ideas.
Opening & finissage
The official opening will take place on the 13th of June at 4.00 pm and invites all interested parties to take a first look at the works together with the project participants. At the end of the exhibition, the finissage on the 18th of July invites you to an inspiring morning with impulses from practice, research and teaching.
The project is supported by the Schwedt | Uckermark Presence Centre, the Schwedt/Oder City Museum and the Schwedt/Oder City Council and is funded by the InNoWest Transfer Fund.
