PaSyMo: Participatory System Modelling as a Tool for Integrated Urban Development

With PaSyMo, the Institute for Applied Research Urban Future develops digital tools for urban planning and participation processes.

The aim of the project is to develop a toolbox consisting of models, computer simulations and workshop concepts together with urban stakeholders and citizens. Existing planning and participation formats are complemented by the visualisation of what-if scenarios of urban development processes. Mission statements and visions of the future can be put up for discussion, taking into account the complexity of urban systems. In this way, the interplay of different influencing factors such as transport, housing and the environment will be conveyed.

The research project is based at the Institute for Applied Research (IaF) Urban Future at University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). PaSyMo builds on the interdisciplinary complementary competences available at the IaF, such as expertise in information visualisation, energy and material flow modelling, modelling of social interaction and transformation processes, transport modelling and telematics, as well as research-based learning in the Master's programme Urban Future.
