Occupational Safety Digital: Documentation
The project "Occupational Safety Digital" made an important contribution to the further training of staff and teachers in digital teaching. Web-based trainings on the topic of occupational safety and health in the wood workshop were created as part of the project. The trainings and accompanying materials are made available free of charge as OER materials for subsequent use. Target groups include applied universities, technical-oriented schools, vocationally-oriented further education providers and craft enterprises.

The project
Digital teaching and learning units on the topic of occupational safety and health were developed in the workshops of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam (FHP) under the direction of the digital teaching unit (Julia Lee, digital teaching unit). The research and transfer unit (Dr Katharina Krüth, research and transfer unit) and workshop employees of the FHP were involved in the development. This process was accompanied by further training measures that had a multiplier effect.
The workshops are the flagship of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and stand for application-oriented and practical studies. Before the pandemic, the focus of instruction in the area of occupational safety and health was almost exclusively on non-digital formats. The pandemic made digitalisation in this area a necessity, as the usual form of instruction in large face-to-face events was no longer possible. For this reason, modularised e-learning materials on the topic of occupational safety and health were developed for the workshops of the FHP in the "Occupational Safety Digital" project, which can also be used by interested parties from other universities and educational institutions. In the form of open educational resources (OER), which can be accessed via Moodle as well as via the website of "Occupational Safety Digital", the know-how of the FHP has also been made accessible to interested parties outside the university. A diverse range of learning opportunities has been created in various workshops as well as through the software and further training materials made available.
In addition, the project has had a significant impact in the area of continuing education. Within the framework of the workshops and one-to-one consultations, which took place according to the peer-to-peer principle, among other things, employees from the workshops and the area of occupational safety and health have received further training in digital, video-based teaching, exchanged information on digital topics across departments and thereby simplified processes within their work areas.
Impressions from the project
In the workshops, the participants were able to acquire various digital and film skills:
- Storyboarding, camera positions and framing, filming and lighting.
- editing films with the programme Camtasia
- Making interactive videos available in a learning management system (Moodle)
- create tests for e-learning formats in Moodle
The project "Occupational Safety Digital" was invited to the 50th annual conference of the German Society for University Didactics in 2022. There, Julia Lee and Katharina Krüth presented the project with a poster.
Project results
For sustainable re-use, various materials and products were created in the project that can be used as open educational resources (OER) under a creative commons licence (CC BY-SA 4.0).
