In the project "P³Dual – Recruitment and development of professorial staff at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam Dual", attractive career paths are being developed for young researchers and practitioners towards an UAS professorship.

Career paths for young researchers

University of Applied Sciences Potsdam would like to improve the promotion of young academics and artists and make it more systematic. In order to achieve the required triple qualification of teaching, research and professional practice for a University of Applied Sciences professorship, new UAS-specific career paths and doctoral opportunities are needed.

Following on from the concept of dual degree programmes, in the P³Dual project University of Applied Sciences Potsdam is testing dual models for promoting young researchers, each with half-funded positions (50 % FUniversity of Applied Sciences Potsdam, 50 % practice partners) in the doctoral (Doc Dual) and postdoctoral (PostDoc Dual) phases, as well as in cooperation with a professorship (Prof Dual). The core of P³Dual is a triad of practice, research and teaching in the three profile lines of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam: "Digital Transformation – Urban Future", "Educating Society" and "Design – Build – Preserve".

Teaching takes place at the university, while practical experience is gained in parallel at a company or social institution. Joint research topics form a bridge between practice and higher education and enable both partners to dovetail closely in terms of content. This Y-model of parallel science-practice training of young professionals is profitable for employees, university and practice to the same extent. The knowledge acquired at the university and at the practice partner is relevant for activities in both working environments and the permeability as well as the flexibility for the junior staff is significantly increased. This opens up a variety of perspectives that need to be shaped. Qualification and networking opportunities also strengthen interdisciplinary support and expand career opportunities within and outside the university.

You will also work with a practice partner (DocDual) and open up career prospects within and outside of a university of applied sciences. The programme enables you to fulfil the necessary appointment requirements (§41 BbgHG) for an UAS professorship "on your way" to becoming professorable. At the same time, you participate in our personnel development and promotion of young academics and are part of a network that supports the exchange among peers.

You have a doctorate and come from a practical background and are interested in a UAS professorship? But you still lack teaching and/or research experience? As part of the P³Dual project, you can work in Prof Dual with a professor from one of our three clusters "Digital Transformation – Urban Future", "Building Society" or "Designing – Build – Preserve". You will receive an E13 position (50 %) at University of Applied Sciences Potsdam for a period of three years, during which time you can gain further qualifications, enrich teaching with your practical experience and initiate and carry out joint research projects. The programme enables you to fulfil the necessary appointment requirements (§41 BbgHG) for an UAS professorship "on your way" to becoming professorable. At the same time, you participate in our personnel development and our network, regardless of which career path you would like to follow afterwards.

Funding opportunities for young researchers

Doctoral degree funding

The University of Applied Sciences Potsdam generally awards doctoral degree funding positions for up to three suitable persons per year. We explicitly encourage female junior researchers to apply. The funding (TV-L E 13, 50 % VZÄ) is initially for six months and can be extended to a maximum of 12 months. The criteria and application procedure are defined in the guidelines for the final funding of doctorates at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.

Women's Promotion Fund

The Women's Promotion Fund is an equality-promoting measure for gender-sensitive personnel development within the framework of the Female Professors Programme III at the UAS: Young female academics are to be offered incentives for publication, individual qualification, profiling and networking. The central equal opportunities commissioner will inform you about funding conditions and application modalities.

UAS Innovation Fund

The Innovation Fund of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam is intended to be an incentive for innovations that contribute to the development of the UAS in teaching and studies, research and transfer, continuing education, internationalisation, service and administration. All members of the university can apply for innovative projects in these areas. The UAS provides 500,000 euros annually for this purpose. The approved funds can be spent on both personnel and material resources.

Publication Fund for Open Access Monographs of the State of Brandenburg

The Publication Fund for Open Access Monographs of the State of Brandenburg provides members of the eight Brandenburg universities with a funding opportunity for monographs and similar publication formats as well as innovative projects in this area. The funding instrument is endowed with 100,000 euros per year for the years 2021 to 2023.
