Student Reprocentre – Plotter Room

Innenansicht Plotterraum

Since 2002, the student reprocentre has been managed by students with the support of the Department of CITY | BUILDING | CULTURE. We want to offer all members of the university the opportunity to plot and bind brochures here on campus at low cost as part of their teaching.

Utilisation & equipment

The student reprocentre is located in rooms A320 and A322 in House A and offers students an inexpensive and uncomplicated way to plot their plans and projects. The plotter room is equipped with a modern plotter that guarantees high print quality and precision and is available to all members of the university.

Opening hours

  • Opening hours during the lecture period are by appointment only by e-mail Monday to Friday between 10:00 and 18:00.
  • The plotter room is closed during the lecture-free period.
  • Urgent assignments such as bachelor theses are handled separately and should be registered early by e-mail.

Contact

It is best to contact your fellow students who are in the plotter team directly, as this is the quickest and easiest way to get your printouts. Otherwise, the plotter team can be contacted via e-mail and MS Teams.

Order processes

If you want to use the plotter room, there are a few things you should know. Here are some instructions on the individual features of the plotter room to make the process as smooth as possible.

1. Submit order

You can send us the order by e-mail or MS Teams. Please note the information below. If the file is too large for the e-mail, please upload the print job to the FHPcloud. Make sure that the file is clearly labelled: Date_first and last name, numbering | 01012023_Billy Example_1.

The following information must never be missing:

  • Paper format (DIN A2, DIN A1, DIN A0, please specify special formats in dimensions)

  • Paper quality (90 g/m2, 120 g/m2, 120 g/m2 transparent)

  • Colour (coloured, greyscale, black/white)

  • Number of prints per page

  • Name and matriculation number

  • Further comments

Please write this information in a separate Word document (file name:Date_First and Last Name|01012023_Billy Example), which you can also upload to the FHPcloud. Alternatively, this information can simply be included in a Teams message.

2. Order confirmation

We confirm the print order by e-mail or MS Teams and inform you of the price. You may receive a pick-up date (approx. 1 – 2 working days later) separately by e-mail.

Please note that processing may take longer if the order volume is high. The decisive factor for the order is the receipt by e-mail or MS Teams.

3. Payment

Please pay the amount due at the large cash machine in the foyer of the main building to the left of the library entrance. You can use the "Buy goods" button in the student reprocentre shop ("FB2 Plotter Room") to pay the amount in a similar way to cash. The cash machine accepts payments by campus card or girocard.

You will receive a receipt there. Please take a photo of the front of the receipt and send it by e-mail or MS Teams (at least 1.5 hours before the collection time). Please bring the receipt with you on the agreed pick up date.

Important: Without timely payment and submission of the receipt, you will not receive your print order or it will be delayed.

If you require an invoice, please also provide us with the billing address.

Note for employees and lecturers: Please also let us know the cost centre to be charged (with no.).

4. Pick up

Please come to room A322 on time on the specified pick up date to collect your order. Please remember the receipt.

1. Send enquiry

Send us an e-mail or MS Teams message with the enquiry for the scan, please also state the number of pages.

2. Order confirmation

We confirm the enquiry and arrange a date for scanning.

3. Appointment

Please come to room 322 (building A) on time at the specified date so that we can carry out the scan quickly. If more than three documents are to be scanned, these can be picked up together with the USB stick at a later date.

Important: We recommend that you bring a USB stick on which the scans can be saved. Make sure you have enough free storage space, at least 500 MB.

We calculate the cost of a brochure individually. We need the following information:

  • Format (A5, A4, A3) and binding page (short or long side)

  • Type of binding (wire, plastic or stitch binding) and colour (black/silver)

  • Number of pages in colour and b/w

1. Order request

You can send a non-binding enquiry by e-mail to plotterraum@fh-potsdam.de or via MS Teams, stating your requirements and ideas. Please attach the PDF file as individual pages or upload the pages to the FHPcloud.

2. Offer

We will send you a proposal with the estimated price of the brochure and, if necessary, give you advice on how to achieve the best possible result.

3. Accept the offer

You can now accept the offer and choose from a number of options.

4. Order confirmation

We confirm the order and give you the final price and a date for collection (approx. 1 – 2 working days later) or production of the brochure.

5. Payment

Please pay the amount due at the large cash machine in the foyer of the main building to the left of the library entrance. You can use the "Buy goods" button to pay in the student reprocentre shop ("FB2 Plotter Room") in a similar way to paying with cash. The cash machine accepts payments by campus card or Girocard.

You will receive a receipt there. Please take a photo of the front of the receipt and send it by e-mail or MS Teams (at least 1.5 hours before the collection time). Please bring the receipt with you to the agreed collection date.

Important: Without timely payment and submission of the receipt, you will not receive your print job or it will be delayed.

If you require an invoice, please also provide us with the billing address.

Note for employees and lecturers: Please also let us know the cost centre to be charged (with no.).

6. Production/Pick up

Please arrive on time in room A 320 on the pick-up date specified by e-mail to collect or produce your order.

For brochures with spiral binding, you can do the printing yourself (also with our paper). The iMacs in the CAD lab (A319) are available for this purpose.

FAQ

Line or area – Which applies?

Photos, perspectives and coloured areas require a lot of toner, while texts and CAD drawings are displayed as lines. In cases of doubt, you can send a screenshot of the motif by e-mail and the appropriate category will be decided.

Is it possible to use the plotter spontaneously?

No. Due to the complexity and billing, the plotters are only operated by our trained employees. Please make an appointment in advance by e-mail.

Is it possible to print borderless?

Yes, the plotters print all documents borderless. You don't have to take anything into account when saving the file. Simply move the photos to the edge and save the document as a PDF.

Which file formats are accepted?

PDF is accepted as a file format. If you have several sheets of the same format, please merge them into one PDF.

Is it possible to make acetonisations with printouts from the plotter?

No, the plotter is based on inkjet technology, acetonising (rubbing) only works with laser printing.
