BEng Infrastructure Systems | Dual Study Programme

The dual bachelor's degree program in Infrastructure Systems deals with the planning, construction and operation of technical infrastructure facilities. This includes transport networks with their roads as well as rail and waterways, as well as the private and public transport moving on them, which ensures our mobility. Systems for energy and water supply and wastewater disposal are also included. The fields of activity of infrastructure systems specialists are closely linked to energy and environmental issues. In the course of study, university semesters alternate with practical semesters, which are completed at the training practice partner. The theoretical and practical phases are coordinated in terms of content.

The Study

Resource-efficient infrastructure systems for the cities of tomorrow

In order for infrastructure systems to function well in the long term and also in their interrelationships with each other, urban design and spatial planning issues are part of the planning fundamentals. One focus of the Infrastructure Systems program is the design of transportation infrastructure facilities. The design is initially concerned with the routing of roads and railroads, with traffic intersections being of particular importance for traffic control. Traffic control facilities such as traffic signals are assigned to traffic engineering. For the operation of public transport systems, the creation of timetables is a central task. The networking of traffic systems and the integration of digital technologies in the sense of a SmartCity are becoming increasingly important. The construction and maintenance of roads and railroads involves the type of construction, the selection and processing of building materials and construction methods, and analysis methods for assessing damage. The design of facilities for supply and disposal infrastructure is another focus. Urban water management is concerned with the conservation and use of natural water resources for the supply of water and in the disposal of wastewater.

Is this course of study a good fit for you?

As a civil engineer for infrastructure systems, you should naturally have an interest not only in structures and construction processes, but also in mobility, transport, and energy and water supply. A good understanding of mathematics and physics is also required for your studies. For the planning of cities and spaces, geodata and digital planning tools are used in particular, which requires basic IT knowledge and affinity.

The high practical relevance of the dual degree program Infrastructure Systems allows you to enter the professional world at an early stage, so that you can directly apply what you have learned in theory at your cooperating practical site. The parallel study and practice require good organization, communication skills and an independent way of working.

Course of studies

The standard period of study for the dual full-time degree program in infrastructure engineering is eight semesters and concludes with a Bachelor of Engineering.

Teaching formats

The theory semesters in the dual degree program Infrastructure Systems guarantee a theoretically sound and equally practical study through the choice of teaching formats:

Modules

During the first five semesters, technical and scientific fundamentals of civil engineering as well as modules of hydraulic engineering are taught. In the 7th and 8th semesters, the specialized knowledge for infrastructure systems is deepened and an individual focus is set through elective modules.

The content of the dual bachelor's degree program in Infrastructure Systems consists of general principles of civil engineering, construction fundamentals, teaching content of infrastructure and urban water management as well as construction management and law.

  • Mathematics, technical drawing, surveying, communication and scientific work, reflection on theory-practice transfer and course of studies.
  • Statics, structural design, building materials science, building physics, foundation engineering, solid construction
  • Urban engineering, mobility systems, design of traffic routes, traffic engineering, hydraulic engineering, water and wastewater, environmental and planning law
  • Project management, construction operations, construction planning, construction law, construction business management

Practical phases

You will be under contract with a company for the entire duration of your studies and will complete the practical phases as well as the practical period there.

Application & Enrollment

Application & Enrollment

If you have concluded a training contract with one of our practice partners, you can submit an enrollment application. For the study course BEng Infrastructure Systems | Dual Study Programme, enrollment is always possible from 15.06. to 15.07. for the next winter semester. Applications for a higher semester are possible until 15.07.
For this purpose, please note the following, course-specific information:

Access requirements

To enroll in the open-admission dual bachelor's degree program Infrastructure Systems, you need a university entrance qualification in accordance with the Brandenburg Higher Education Act.
This higher education entrance qualification includes the general higher education entrance qualification or the advanced technical college entrance qualification or a previous vocational training recognized as equivalent.
A further prerequisite for studying is a signed educational contract with one of our cooperating practical companies.

Enrollment

After successfully concluding a training contract, you can submit the enrollment application online in the MyCampus university portal of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. This must then be submitted in paper form together with the evidence listed in the application. The day of the matriculation deadline (receipt of mail at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam) applies to the submission of the documents.

Documents to be submitted

  • officially certified copy of the university entrance qualification or the university degree certificate
  • Insurance certificate of the statutory health insurance for students or proof of exemption from the statutory insurance obligation
  • Proof of payment or order confirmation of the semester fee
  • photograph for the issuance of the Campus.Card
  • If applicable, certificate of exmatriculation from the last university attended
  • If applicable, further documents according to the enrollment application form
