Invitation to the Joint Event by Potsdam's Universities at the Filmmuseum Potsdam

The Austrian documentary film "Feminism WTF" will be shown at a joint event organised by Potsdam's universities at the Filmmuseum Potsdam. The film will be followed by a performance by spoken word artist Jessy James LaFleur.

The Equal Opportunities Offices of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF as well as the Coordination Office for Equal Opportunities of the University of Potsdam invite you to the Film Museum Potsdam on 14th of March 2023 at 18:00 as part of the 34th Brandenburg Women's Weeks.

The documentary film FEMINISM WTF (Katharina Mueckstein, AT 2023, 96') breaks down the variety of topics that will be negotiated under the term feminism in 2023. Experts from the political and social sciences, masculinity studies, gender, queer and trans studies explore the question of how existing power relations can be broken down. Why does the myth of binary gender persist? Why do women do the majority of unpaid care work? Are capitalism and feminism a contradiction? What does European colonialism have to do with sexism and racist stereotypes? Do we need feminism to save the climate? The interviewees engage in a cinematic dialogue with music videos and electronic sound. This creates new, pleasurable images of the body and gender.

The film is followed by a performance by Jessy James LaFleur. She has been performing her stirring poetry in three languages in over 30 countries for 20 years and is the founder of the "Spoken Word Academy", which realises poetry projects for young adults across Europe to combat the growing shift to the right.
