Study as an exchange student for one to two semesters at the FH Potsdam

Welcome to your semester abroad at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam! The FHP participates in the Erasmus+ program and has many bilateral agreements with partner universities worldwide. As an international exchange student, you will study with us in an application-oriented and interdisciplinary way!

How to apply
How to apply in just a few steps. This is how you enroll as an exchange student with us.
1. Nomination
First, you have to be nominated for a stay abroad at the FH Potsdam. Thus, your home university has to nominate you. The nomination is done before the application deadline by email to the International Office of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam: international@fh-potsdam.de.
There is no cooperation agreement between your university and the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam? We also accept applications from Free Mover students. Please contact the International Office and also submit a current certificate of enrolment with your application.
2. Application
After you have been nominated, you can apply to us. Send the following documents by mail to international@fh-potsdam.de.
- Application form
- Letter of motivation (500 - 1000 words)
- Curriculum vitae (tabular)
- Transcript of records from home university in English
- Language certificate. This must be submitted for the language of instruction (German or English). Language certificates, letters of recommendation by language teachers, OLS test results are accepted as proof of language skills.
- Portfolio if you are applying for Design programs
Application deadlines
June 01 for the academic year or winter semester (end of September to end of February).
November 01 for the summer semester (end of March to end of July)
3. Selection and admission
After we receive your application, the coordinators in the study programs will check your documents according to the respective admission requirements (for example, language skills, portfolio, etc.). You will receive feedback from the International Office within 6 weeks by e-mail.
If you receive a letter of acceptance Letter of Acceptance from us, then we welcome you warmly to FH Potsdam in the next semester.
4. Enrollment
After admission you will be enrolled as an exchange student at the FHP. You will receive a Campus.Account and a Campus.Card with multiple functions: Semester ticket, student card, library card, copy and print card.
A semester fee is charged for this. The fee is currently 265.34 EUR per semester for exchange students. Important: These are not tuition fees or fees for enrollment!
5. Learning agreement
In the next step, start creating your Learning Agreement. In principle, you can choose from all courses at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences if you fulfill the prerequisites for the course. This means that you can also select courses from other degree programs and interdisciplinary courses. You should earn a maximum of 30 ECTS per semester. The minimum number of credits you must acquire is determined by your home university.
Language skills
The language of instruction is German. For the application you have to prove appropriate language skills for German on level B1 of the European Framework of Reference. Exception: For the English-language Master Childhood Studies and Children's Rights a language certificate for English B2 has to be submitted with the application.
The following programs offer a limited range of courses and academic support in English: Cultural Work, Social Work, Design (all programs), Architecture and Urban planning Master.

Course Overview Design Department
The course offerings in the design courses can be found in the extra course catalog Design. Enrollment in the courses is done via the communication platform in the Design Department called Incom. If you have been accepted as an exchange student, you can already register as a guest in Incom and familiarize yourself with the course offer.

Find accommodation
The University of Applied Sciences Potsdam does not have its own dormitories or accommodation. The housing market in Potsdam and Berlin is tight, it is not always easy to find an apartment. It is best to start looking for an apartment as soon as you have decided to spend your semester abroad in Potsdam.

Register with the Buddy Program
Sign up for our buddy program and get in touch with other FHP students even before you start your studies at our university. The FHP Buddies will help you before your arrival and at the start of your studies.
Plan your arrival - Welcome and Orientation Days
Prior to the start of the semester, the International Office will hold Welcome and Orientation Days for all exchange students. Plan your arrival accordingly and inform the International Office about the planned arrival day. Please note that rooms in student residences are often only rented from 01 October or 01 April. So for the transition you will have to look for another accommodation.
Before departure
The following steps are necessary to end your stay with us. Remember to cancel all memberships and contracts in time or to inform others of your new registration address.
Grades and Transcript of Records
At the end of your semester abroad at the FHP, you will be issued a Transcript of Records for the overview of your achievements.
At the FHP, credit points are awarded as ECTS points. 60 ECTS points correspond to the workload of one academic year. The acquisition of one ECTS credit point is based on an average workload of 30 time-hours.
Some courses at the FHP are graded pass or fail as ungraded courses.
