First Steps in Digital Teaching

Here you can find out what the first organisational steps are, for example, to set up an online course room or an online conference or to create a video lecture.

  • Set up Online Course Room

There are three Learning Management Systems (LMS) for digital teaching at the UAS: Moodle, Incom and Olat. With an LMS, teachers can set up online courses. The online courses offer many possibilities:

    • as a virtual seminar room for digital communication, collaboration and organisation (e.g. communication of weekly schedules, important dates, requirements for credit points, organisation of group work, distribution of presentation topics, access to further digital tools such as online conference rooms or interactive whiteboards)
    • for the didactic design of teaching (e.g. through the communication of learning objectives, design of teaching and learning paths and e-learning modules, activities and interactive exercises
    • Sharing digital materials and media such as scripts, handouts, videos, images and audio materials, digital noticeboards
    • ePortfolio for student learning products
    • for student collaboration (e.g. wikis, glossaries, student quizzes and peer reviews)
    • Conduct of examinations

  • Conduct a Video Conference

For the implementation three video conferencing systems (VCS) are available at the FHP: Zoom and Microsoft Teams. With a VCS, both teachers and students can hold synchronous distance online events using video and audio transmission. A VCS offers many possibilities:

    • Conduct digital seminars, lectures, consultations and conferences.

    • Location-independent exchange between two to approx. 200 - 300 people

    • Screensharing, e.g. shared viewing of scripts, presentations, images, videos and audios, internet browsers and other programmes on one person's desktop

    • Collaborative work with tools such as chats, polls, simple interactive whiteboards, writing shared text documents with Etherpads

    • Breakout sessions for group work

    • Support for proctoring of online exams
