Information on Internships During Studies

The studies at the design department are complemented by specialised internships, which are registered with and supervised by teachers of the department. Internships help to prepare students for their future professional field of activity and provide a realistic idea of the professional reality and the possibilities of the intended professional field.

Internships

Requirements & Remuneration

The remuneration should not fall below the legal minimum wage.
In addition, it is important that you get an insight into the professional field and are not mainly employed with undemanding work or already as an independent designer and in this way replace a full employee for the company.

Duration

Bachelor interface design, communication design, product design:

  • 22 weeks minimum duration


European media studies:

  • 6 weeks minimum duration; 8 weeks recommended

Internships abroad

An internship abroad is especially recommended in addition to a period of study abroad. Internships abroad can be funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), among others. A list of partner universities as well as detailed information on the topic of internships abroad can be found on the pages of the international office.

For the design degree programmes, the internship officer accepts the informal registration of the planned internship, stating the supervising company, and is available to answer questions about the procedure.
